Frequently Asked Questions
Wait, don’t socialists hate guns?
No. Quite the opposite, guns are a tremendous equalizer and as socialists we seek to level the playing field and empower the working class and other vulnerable communities. Socialism has a long history of helping the colonized, the disenfranchised, and the marginalized educate, arm, and defend themselves. NEOSRA proudly continues that tradition.
Are you a militia?
The SRA, including NEOSRA, is explicitly not a militia. The struggle against fascism is a multifaceted one, and we are first and foremost an educational organization focused on community defense through learning and advocacy. This is how we do our part in that struggle.
Who cannot be a member of the SRA?
- Cops
- Anyone else that holds state-given power to detain or arrest others
- Other fascists and bigots
NRA vs SRA?
The NRA is a business, not a community or a movement. It holds a monopoly on firearms education and culture that revolves around white supremacy, nationalism, and fear. It funnels its training and legal backing strictly to the patriotic white, cisgender, heterosexual male, but fails him too at the end of the day. Unlike the NRA, SRA membership is more than just a card and we do not need a constitutional amendment backed by the state or SCOTUS to tell you that you have the right to bear arms. In 1850, Karl Marx declared: “Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered…” and we believe those words ring true today.
